Stole my money

I went to EyeGlass World on S.E.14th Street,Des Moines, IA. Went there to have my eyes checked and to get new glasses. Had cash and the associate that waited on me stole the money, and of all the nerve they had the balls to call me at home at 7 o'clock and say that I had not paid for my glasses. While on the phone associate admitted to taking my money, so in the end I got free eyeglasses that aren't worth a *** and I believe that the lens are incorrect but you can't get a word in edgewise with them!!! The store manager couldn't even manage a McDonald's and to top it all off the associate who admitted to taking my money still has a job!!!!! Got ahold of a DM was supposed to get some help and got nothing and was told they had never run into this problem before.

Eyeglass World is Incompetent

I paid Eyeglass World of Orlando, Florida, Eyeglass World Building, 3808 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, Florida, 32803 $528.00 for new glasses, the idiots clearly put in the wrong lens and then try to convince me that they are just fine. What a crock! I know if I can see clearly or not, my older glasses from Vision Works, although a bit dated work fine, the new over priced garbage from Eyeglass World are useless. I refused to accept them, and I will get my money back one way or another! Do yourself a favor, and never use Eyeglass World!

Eyeglass World not helpful!!

I purchased 2 frames for 129.00 after the add ons the total was 395.98. Really, that should have been my first clue. It has been a nightmare trying to get the frames adjusted. Come to find out the frames are just to big for my face/head. I have had folk at other optical stores tell me flat out the the frames will never be comfortable. Well, my bad. But now the polycarbonate lenses have crack at the corners. I purchased a frame more suitable for my face/head in MI and returned to FL for lenses. The optical clerk at the Sam's club was very helpful and looked at the cracked lens in my glasses. She tells me that the lense is too thin and that is why it's cracked. Now I was under the impression that polycarbs are shatter resistant, why then are they cracked? I never had any help in selecting the correct frames for my face/head or any other assistance. The staff is only interested in up selling and order taking. Do your self a favor and spend a little more money or better yet shop around. Those deals that sound too good to be true are not good deals. Eye Glass World may end up costing more in time and aggravation than you may be willing to spend. I intend on going to the store to complain, but I am sure that I will not be able to get satisfaction. I WILL NEVER AGAIN GO TO EYE GLASS WORD TO PURCHASE GLASSES!!!

people in todays society are so ignorant and just dumb! it clearly says 2 for 78 fopr single vision lens.

that doesnt mean to come in the store pick out the most expensive frames and order every upgrade known to man and when they tell you the price is over $500 paatients say its a scam and say the sales rep was rude and then complain to management never really knowing how much trouble they cause the sales rep who did nothing wrong. dont be ***! you know what the bottom line is and if you want upgrades be prepared to pay for them! and stop being so so ignorant!

my god some of you people are just dumb!

its so fustrating having to try and help customers in retail. they have this sense of entitlement and come in all ignorant and ghetto saying "oh you scam us oh you rude thats not what da sign says" get a grip on your life!

Guest

Funny thing, you say shatter resistant, then why are they cracked. "resistant" is the key word.

Consumers also need to realize what they are buying ahead of time. They advertise the two for $78 "with single vision plastic lenses." Do the research and stop trying to be entitled. You are everything that is going wrong with our country! And no I don't work there, but I do work in the optical field.

I have the luxury of telling *** customers to go somewhere else because I own my own store. You would be one of them.

Eye Glass World

Updated by user Jan 19, 2013

Not sure why I got a notice to update my information because I left the business without paying, left the contacts on the counter, and am not planning on going back!

Original review Dec 19, 2012
I arranged an appointment to get an eye exam for contact lenses because of the $39 special eye exam advertised on the building. I told the woman that was a good deal and verified it was for contact lenses. I went in the next day and had the exam and got a trial pair of lenses. She then said that the bill was over $100! I was shocked. I told her I was expecting the $39 exam. She said, oh, that's for an exam for glasses, the contact lens exam is more. I explained to her I told the person the day before I needed an exam for contacts and they gave me no indication the charges were higher. (I would have stayed with my regular eye clinic because they wouldn't even give me a price until I after I had the exam-which I declined). I told the woman that I had been lied to and she tried to defend the other person because she said she had worked with her for 12 years. I asked her to call her on the phone, but she refused. I refused to pay, popped out the contacts, and walked out the door.

Who the *** only charges $39 for a contact lens exam?!

Guest

I apologize that you had this experience, I really do believe this to be a miscommunication over the phone. Unfortunately the price is not changeable by any associate and clearly noted on the counter.

I would have to say that if you thought you needed to clarify with the associate that the price was actually $39 for the contact lens exam you did know that she was incorrect in the quoted price if she even did so. I ask you as well would you like to be called by work on your day off? Not that I am condoning or recognizing that you received poor customer service but if you believe so I am deeply sorry you feel this way.

I hope that you have better dealings wherever you go.

Eyeglass World Ft Myers

I went to eyeglass world to purchase perscription glasses at the Ft Myers location, the representative advised me to make a selection of glasses, I paid almost six hundred dollars for two sets of glasses. I did further research and found competitors pricing in the area of three hundred dollars. Eyeglass world was informed and stated they would match the price. I agreed and going to store to purchase the glasses they refused to honor their prior committment of price matching. The manager of store mislead me . Eyeglass world attempts to get as much money as they can from you.

I was misinformed, Then Ignored

Eyeglass World in Phoenix led me to believe that my insurance would cover more than it actually would. Several of the employees were asked what % disc I would get and they all said the same thing and their past experiences with my insurance company led me to believe what I was told and the upsale that I was convinced would be paid for was not. I was also told I would get an immediate CREDIt for what I was entitled to and it took days to process. Disappointed and convinced I made the wrong decision to do business with them.

You could have had them mail your glasses to you. They offer to do that. The stores here in Grandville, MI give amazing customer service.

Guest

Dear Lord, if you conduct your life the way you conduct your communication skills, shame on you! Did it ever occur to CALL THEM to confirm that your glasses were there, before you blindly drove all that way?

I would never trust any business to have things totally in order under their own steam. I won't even go to a doctor for a follow up visit unless I call first to be CERTAIN the lab or test results are there. My time is valuable, isn't yours? You can't expect others to "reimburse" you, or give you a discount for your own neglectfulness.

P.S.

Take some classes in reading and writing at night school. You are probably stone broke so of course it will be free for you, courtesy of us gainfully employed.

Port Charlotte store is a PIG STY! Poor Lab!

EYEGLASS WORLD Assistant mgr was very rude like she was better than me.. Snooty! Waited a 1/2 hr to pick up my dads glasses and when I got them the lenses were already popping out of the frame! No one could give me an explanation except I was told they were going to check with the Lab mgr? What kind of goons are making our glasses? I should've know when I walked in and seen that the store was a PIGSTY! I mean it was a mess! Employees bickering and swearing at each other.. Why do us customers need to hear this? After they got finished talking to this lab mgr person I was told that it was the best they could do.. WTF!! My dad will be going in for a refund and WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN!!!!!!! I'm a snowbird so the next time I come down I don't care if I have to drive 100 miles to get him glasses! What a joke!

Another scam..Eyeglass World got us!

My children were taken by Eyeglass World $249.00 for two eye appointments in Orlando FL, E. Colonial Dr.

A classic bait and switch operation. The add on TV - $38.00 for an eye exam.. $78 for 2 pairs of glasses. When my children arrived they were told contact and glasses for $99.99 but in the end they had a bill for $249.00 before glasses.

SCAM! Stay away from this place. The manager had the nerve to call the police when I went back as a parent to inquire about this...unprofessional GM. Gulf Coast Optometry/Eyeglass World appear to be in this together.

The assoc that rang up the bill asked "was there a problem" $124.50 a piece for an exam.

False advertising!

Took my nephew to Gulf Coast Optometry in August for his first pair of contact lenses. Everything was fine until he had to insert and remove the contact lens by himself before he could take his trial pair with him.

He had a very difficult time doing this and to make matters worse they put him in a very tiny room connected to the waiting room with the door WIDE open. They also had another teenage girl come in at the same time using a small space next to the sink. He got very embarrased and was not able to get his lens in and out. They would not let him take them home with him.

It is now February and I want him to go back and try again and they want to charge us another $35 office visit. I know that contact lens rx are good for 1 year so I thought we still had time. They DID NOT tell us we had to come back within 90 days. I talked to a manager and I will tell you that he did not care.

He said I am sure you were told, I told him I am sure we were not told and that it should be in writing and he said he didn't have to be. So much for customer service. I would never go back.

Privacy is a problem at this location. :x :x :x

First, Gulf Coast Optometry and Eyeglass World are seperate entities. If you are allowing your children to go by themselves, you need to teach them how to ask about pricing before purchasing.

There are many factors that go into an eye exam. The initial eye exam may be 99 dollars, but a contact lens exam is more complicated and tends to be more expensive. Further, if there were any additional tests, such as retinal photos, there would be additional charges. As far as the optical, I believe the 78 dollar deal is on select frames with standard lenses.

This means, if your child chose a frame that isnt part of the deal, youre going to pay full price. This is all common sense. If you want to protect your money, you should tell the receptionist from the beginning, "I would like the 99 dollar eye exam.

Is this promotion still running?" If she says the exam will be more, walk away. Easy.

Dude, it's EGW.... They are forever and always advertising eye eexams at $38, thats a company thing.

Next thats what the ad on TV showed... So that makes sense. She said once they got there they were told the price for eye exams AS WELL as contact were a flat $99. That is not the price in the add or for the store.

Even if quoted before extra photos or anything. So off the top they are given the wrong price. So lets say $99 x 2 = 198 before any tax if applicable. before frames it was $249. Thats still wrong.

Now I can get you a link to the EGW website that shows the EVERLASTING coupon that says frams and lens $78 for 2 pair.

Also when doing this they make sure you know about the glasses you are to choose from, also they are BOGO all over the store. Im sure there kids were taken advantage of.

Guest

Glasses exams and contact exams are not the same price, maybe you should have checked that out before you sent your kids in there. And where the *** were you when they were having their eye exams? Why don't you be a responsible parent and quit your ***.

Guest

I just picked up my glasses at Eyeglass World in Spokane Washington this past Saturday. And I have been having trouble ever since focuiong when I go from reading a book to watching tv.

So I took them into our local optometrist and he read the prescription for me and told me that they were a quarter of a diopter off. SO I called Eyeglass World and spoke to the associate who answered the phone and told her my problem. She said that since I had then made under a warranty that has already expired she would have to talk to her boss and see if they could fix the problem. I told her it wasn't my fault that they didn't make them correctly.

She wanted met o come in and get the lenses ordered. I told her I wasn't driving 70 mile round trip for that. She could order them without me being there. SHe finally got back to me and said that she was ordering them today and would call when they came in .

I sure hope they r right this time. Otherwise I will be calling the corporate office and rasing holy heck.

Eyeglass world is world-class liars!

What a scam! two pair of eyeglasses for 78 is what the HUGE sign says out front! lie lie lie. When they rang up my order, it came to almost $700. I walked out. They try to intimidate you so that when you can't pay for it, you feel embarrassed. ***. I cannot believe nowadays the medical profession has become a group of *** that will say or do anything for a buck! Disgusting! How about false advertising? How do they get away with it? The doctor was very professional, but forget the rest of it! Come on, America! There are better way to make a living than lying to people and driving a *** Mercedes afterward!

Just like with any store advertising a sale, it's for specific items. The 2 for $78 is a specific wall of frames to choose from, and for single vision only.

Simple as that. What quite obviously happened with your case, is you chose frames from a higher priced section and needed more advanced/complex prescription lenses. Maybe even upgrades. All adding to your total.

The only person you should be upset with is yourself for not paying attention to what you were shopping for, or asking ahead of time what the sale entailed. Saving ourself a lot of time. Plus you get what you pay for, and obviously you were looking for something cheap.

Foster Grants. There you go.

Guest

thats the problem. they try to sell you things you dont want or need.

they do not stand by their product. garbage ***!

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-364348

And yet you agreed to those upgrades any way? You had the option to say yay or nay before buying.

By simply saying you wanted two for 78 I'm pretty sure they would have done it. It's that simple.

Guest

If you read the sign it says single vision with plastic lenses only. If you have a strong prescription then you may need a thinner lense, or if you need bifocals then the 2 for 78 does not apply. And any add upgrades you want you still have to pay for.

Blind in Des Moines.

I went to Eyeglass World in Des Moines Iowa. I had a very bad eye infection my Doctor told me to stop wearing my contact and get glasses right away. The lady that tried to sell me glasses tried to sell me everything under the sun and would not take no for an answer. I explained to her that I could not afford all of that right now and I just needed something to get me by for now. She said she would not sell me "Cheap" glasses and got up and walked away and starting looking for her next victum. Another lady came over and talke to me. She explained that my prescription was to high for the stock that they carreied and no matter what I got they would not be able to provide me with same day service. I ended up going down the street to another place and got my glasses in a 1/2 hour. Even the second lady that helped me was nice, I will never go back there again!

Eyeglass World's glasses

Took my stepdaughter to Eyeglass world yesterday and bought 4 pairs of what were said to be great glasses. Less than 2 hours of having them home one lens has 5 yes 5 cracks in it. Hope this is not what they consider durable for an 8 year old child. This was after being sent on a wild goose chase all over town because they did not accept our insurance so they sent us somewhere else that did not take it either. We ended up going back and spending a lot of money there. Hope they make it right. Not very encouraging when something like this happens so soon!

Letch Store Manager at Daytona Eyeglass World

Very inappropriate with me (verbally). The man makes my skin crawl. I will never go back and have to deal with him again. I can't possibly be the only one that feels this way about that guy at Daytona Eyeglass World. Friends told me to contact the head office and report him but I find that very embarrassing to talk about and I think he gets away with it because of that. This happened to me a couple months ago but I just found this website. I hope that his bosses understand that they are losing money because of him.

Placed the wrong order, twice!!

I have never had that many problems with one simple order in my life. I went to eyeglass world in Castleton (Indianapolis, IN) and ordered new contact lenses. They ordered the wrong prescription for the left eye (first mistake). So I had to return the contact and re-order the left eye. When I came to pick up my order, I realized they had re-ordered BOTH my left and right eye prescriptions (second mistake). When placing an order for contact lenses, they have not done one thing right. Is is really that difficult to place an order? Clearly it is. Needless to say I have wasted enough time on this store and will never use eyeglass world ever again.

I got a call from Eyeglass World saying I won a coupon for a free pair of glasses and that it would be mailed to me in a couple days. 2-3 weeks later, I called to inform them it still hadn't arrived.

Finally it came about a week later. Today I went in to claim my coupon after spending 30 minutes picking out the perfect pair, only to be told they couldn't make them for me until I got another eye exam. Not only did I not have the money for another exam , I was seeing perfectly well with the precription I have. They flat out refused to make them stating it was the "law".

Sounds like another way for them to make more money and wasted my time in the process. Nothing is ever free!

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-375110

It is ridiculous that you had searched for frames for 30 minutes already, because someone should have asked you if you had a current RX with you? I work in optical and I always make sure to check with people.

I'm definitely not trying to defend them, they could have done a better job. However, unless you had a current RX that had not expired (the place of your last exam should have sent it to them if they had a valid one) then it IS illegal for them to have made glasses for you. Many people seem to forget that an eyeglass RX is like any other. Once it has expired it can not be honored or they could get fined or lose their jobs.

Also, some places like eyeglass world/lenscrafters/OearleVision etc.

don't make money off of your exam because the optometry department is owned separately.

I am very sorry you had a bad experience.
